Gnomes & writing will lead to finding your online voice according to Monica Hamburg who just spoke at the Northern Voice conference.
Here are some other Hamburg tips from her dynamic session:
1. Be youself, but you need to clear on who you are: This can be tough for many people. Good place to start: Ask your friends what they think of you. Find the traits that most enjoyable
2. It’s ok to suck in the beginning of writing your blog. Spelling and grammar isn’t as important as you think it is when you’re in the midst of your creative place. Get your thoughts out first and edit later.
3. Compare yourself to other blogs to see what other styles you like.
4. What is good blog writing?
Benefits of initial obscurity:
Other tidbit: Blogging shouldn't suck. Write about things you are passionate about. Remember it's a process. Keep writing, and writing, and writing, you'll get better.
Finally, thanks to Monica for stepping in for Dave Olsen at the last minute. You rocked the house!
oh and Dave, the audience was in stitches with your video (pun intended!).

My fav part: “It’s ok to suck” – that is really key when we start to write blogs, we all freak out thinking OMG the world is going to read this, but likely, no one may read your first posts! We just need to do the best we can without overanalyzing, write with passion and with personality, then click post! Clicking that post button is sometimes the hardest thing to do, but yet the most important.
Cheers!
Hi Lindsay,
Thanks so much for the post! I teLly appreciated you being there & taking noted & love the opening line :)
Just a quick correction: the session was scheduled from the beginning with both of us :)
And I clearly took to heart my own advice in the above comment ;)

When I write, I try to make it as if I was just talking to someone. Of course, it may break some grammar rules which is quite common with spoken words but I think people still understand or get what I’m saying.
